▎How my life began as a person living with HIV (PLHIV) in Taiwan

Hello! You can call me Coco. Here’s a quick story about how my life began as a person living with HIV (PLHIV) in Taiwan.
I arrived in Taiwan for work in 2023. It had only been a month since I learned about my HIV status. I left my country with just two bottles of ARV medication and was nervous about how I would continue my treatment here.
Imagine being in a foreign country as a PLHIV—the fear and anxiety of finding a solution while making sure no one discovers your status can be overwhelming. While searching online, I came across PRAA (權促會). At first, I hesitated to contact them because no one knew about my condition. But I gathered all the courage I had left to survive—and that turned out to be the best decision I ever made.
PRAA guided me step by step through everything I needed to do. They helped me contact the health center in my district and the main hospital in my city, about a two-hour trip from where I lived. Since I needed to stay in Taiwan for two years to be covered under the National Health Insurance (NHI), they also helped me with purchasing medication online and navigating the FDA approval process.
Since then, I’ve followed the same routine every six months: going to the hospital for check-ups, obtaining necessary documents to buy medication online, and receiving my meds. PRAA never failed to check in and update me from time to time.
Now that it’s finally been two years, I feel emotional knowing I never had to go through all of this alone. I owe so much to PRAA for their love and support. Although I may have left their care, I will never forget how they made me feel at home.
I hope my story inspires others to never give up.
